What else can these mobile dimensioning apps do?
They capture all master item data like barcodes, slotting, weight, photo images for proof of condition along with the auto dimensions. One can create up to 12 custom data capture fields. See the difference between the apps here. 
What is the best way to capture parcel dimensions?

xDIM:

  • Navigate to the correct measurement method on the bottom left of your screen.
  • Position yourself roughly 2 to 3-feet away from the object with the corner of the box facing you.
  • You can use the three-dimensional depth map found at the bottom right of the screen - if you are too close, the image will appear black and fuzzy, and when you are too far, the image will disappear. You want the image to appear with solid colors, indicating appropriate distance. 
  • The crosshair should snap on quickly, locking in dimensions. 

xPIM+:

  • Navigate to the dimensioning icon to the right of your device screen.
  • Select the box / parcel measurement icon located at the bottom of your device screen.
  • Position your device at a 45° angle towards the corner of the box / parcel and roughly 1 - 3 feet above the object. Note: you may have to reposition the object or yourself if the box / parcel is on a higher cart.
  • Make sure the box / parcel is in the screen frame at all times while dimensioning. 
  • You will then get your sub second capture.
